I inherited this old Springfield trapdoor with bayonet and leather sling from my grandfather in 1961. Although I can't recall him talking to me about the gun, he must have seen me admiring it as it hung on the wall of his shop. I think it is what's called a "parts gun" assembled from components bought or traded and then sold to my grandfather sometime between 1910 to 1930, perhaps by Bannermans in New York City.
