The Bird that Started it All

The Bird that Started it All

This Selasphorus rufus arrived in my yard in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, from parts unknown in early September. When I got around to photographing him on September 19 I noticed that he had been banded and I notified Nancy Newfield, a licensed bander who lives near New Orleans. Although it took several weeks to coordinate our schedules the bird was still visiting my feeders when the team arrived to attempt a capture.
