The Banding Team
From left: Steve Locke, who works under the aegis of Nancy Newfield's federal permit, Kevin Morgan (database entry and record keeping) and Nancy Newfield. They had just captured a male Rufous hummer wearing a band. Kevin referred to the database to verify that the band was not one that the team had already used, and Nancy was on the phone to let the bander know about the recapture. We learned that this bird was captured in mid-November of 2012 just north of Mobile, Alabama, about 200 miles to our east. Kevin completes cards for each capture that record sex, size, approximate age, body fat, capture date, capture location and other information. He enters the information in a database that is periodically uploaded to a national data repository.
