This bird has made quite a trip for a youngster. I reported the tag here and a couple of weeks later received a printout indicating that the bird was banded (when he was too young to fly) at Marsh Lake in Big Stone County, MN on July 11, 2009. Four short months later he'd flown more than 1,056 miles, probably much more when you consider that these birds don't make the trip in a straight line -- and was taking a break with a couple of hundred close friends at University Lake in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
