Troll Booth

I discovered this roofed-over hollow tree while walking trails a couple of weeks ago. The place had a pleasantly spooky vibe that reminded me of the trolls and hobbits in stories I’d read as a kid.

It’s only accessible during the day so I gave it a nighttime look by underexposing 3 stops and using tungsten white balance. I placed a flash unit on the ground inside the hollow tree and used a CTO gel to give it a warmer cast.

Flash output was set manually. A wireless trigger fired the flash when the shutter opened. Camera settings controlled overall exposure and flash settings controlled the color and intensity of the interior light.
