Cardinal Female - Leucistic

Cardinal Female - Leucistic

This female cardinal showed up at in my yard in late December, 2010 with a number of other cardinals of both sexes. Other than the leucism (genetic trait that produces feathers/skin without melanin), she appears healthy and well accepted by the other cardinals. Her markings are surprisingly symmetrical on both sides of her head. She returned about the same time each year until 2014.
